Elon Musk Must Face OpenAI’s Countersuit Over Alleged Harassment Campaign
A US District Judge has ruled that Elon Musk must face allegations from OpenAI that he engaged in a "harassment campaign" against the company. The lawsuit claims Musk used legal actions, media interviews, and social media posts to undermine OpenAI while promoting his own AI venture, xAI.
The legal battle marks a stark reversal in Musk's relationship with OpenAI, which he co-founded as a non-profit before departing in 2018. His subsequent criticism of OpenAI's partnership with Microsoft and transition to a capped-profit model has escalated into full legal confrontation.
OpenAI's countersuit alleges Musk's actions violate California's unfair competition laws, framing his behavior as an attempt to slow OpenAI's progress while positioning xAI to benefit. "Elon's nonstop actions against us are just bad-faith tactics," the company stated in court filings.
